Antoinette Winters approaches drawing and painting as a means of investigation. Images and text—drawn, painted, stenciled, or collaged—are freely explored in a process of addition and deletion until a composition of relative simplicity is attained. Throughout this process, the tension of line, the happenstance of marks, and the density of surface become variables to control or to release. The goal is to arrive at a visual haiku where the final image belies the complexity of its making.
Winters received her BA from Immaculate Heart College, Los Angeles, CA. She has also attended Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. She has received national recognition for her work as well as many awards. Presently, Winters is part of the visual arts faculty in fiber arts and drawing at Concord Academy.
