Through colorful and enthusiastic mark making, Beatrice Modisett explores the complex relationships that happen when many disparate elements are placed on one surface. As a painter, the use of shape, line, and material is essential in achieving intricacy in spatial relationships and surface quality. Her recent paintings appear very graphic and decisive from a distance, but it is important that viewers move closer and discover the painterly qualities of the piece that she introduces in contrast to the more resolved elements of the paintings. Modisett approaches these pieces as formal explorations and experiments with her inspiration derived from everyday occurrences.
Beatrice Modisett graduated from Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA with Dean’s Honors as well as the Graduation Award in painting and the Graduation Award in fine arts in May 2007. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at Clark Gallery, Lincoln, MA, the Bear Gallery, Beverly, MA and at Saint Botolph Club, Boston, MA where she was awarded the honor of Exceptional Merit.
