Catherine Carter is an artist who uses paint and fabric collage to explore the possibilities of line. She is inspired by calligraphic marks, textile weaves, and the lines found in nature. A native of Massachusetts, Carter earned her master’s degree in painting from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
Carter has exhibited her work in solo shows at the Danforth Museum of Art as part of the New England Currents series, the Marran Gallery at Lesley University, and the Genovese/Sullivan Gallery. She has also shown her paintings through the Art In Embassies Program at the United States Embassies in Cameroon and Oman. Group shows include the New Bedford Art Museum, the Fuller Craft Museum, and the Chrysler Museum of Art.
The recipient of a grant from the St. Botolph Club Foundation, her work is held in numerous public collections including Berkshire Partners, the Four Seasons Hotel, Meditech Information Technology, and Verenium Corporation.
