Bruce Barry

Bruce Barry, Journal Entry #86, 1998

Journal Entry #86, 1998, wheel-thrown and altered stoneware, cone 10 reduction glazes, and mason stains, 7", Collection of Robert and Kathleen Garner

In Bruce Barry's ceramic works, handwritten text and sculptural form are equal partners. His sculptures are vessels, without traditional handles or spouts, which refer to internal and sexual organs, wombs, and cocoons. The text, which is written both on the exterior and interior of the vessels, is comprised of Barry's observations, opinions, personal history, and anecdotes.
