Kevin Bubriski's photographs of Japanese Butoh dancers are not merely snapshots of performances. Rather, they are captured moments that result from an aesthetic interaction of photographer, dancer (or dancers), and a specific place. Bubriski's color and black and white photographs capture the bizarre, dark, and angst-ridden content of Japan's most avant-garde performance style.
