Ambreen Butt

Playing on the combination of textural elements with decorative and figurative imagery seen in Islamic manuscripts, Butt puts a contemporary spin on an otherwise traditional medium. Some of the works are built upon her own writings, though she has transformed the words so that they are no longer legible. While it is clear that there is a story to be told, Butt only hints at what might be in her works.
