Remo Campopiano
Under the Volcano, 2000, multimedia installation, 10' x 16' x 8'
Home to 1,000 California Harvester ants, the city in Campopiano’s installation Under the Volcano is a metaphorical city. These ants actively pursue their daily lives, collecting and storing seeds, retrieving water from the moat, and moving an entire mountain of sand that will bury their city; which is constructed from cut-up circuit boards and computer parts.
