My photographs describe a locale or an event seen through multiple frames of reference, which intertwine, overlap, and coalesce to create a new perspective. I mix environments in the camera to create perceptions in which the sum is greater than the parts. This process evokes memory's transitory yet incessant impact upon our psyche. The images surrounded in darkness both separate the everyday and imply a dream-like state.
The mirror man acts as a stand-in for everyone as well as a mysterious double. He reflects his surroundings onto himself, an embodied shadow without a source. A reluctant participant, he has nowhere to go. Our unconscious is clothed in his dark coat, while our consciousness shines in the light of the mirror. Stuck between these opposites, he struggles to make sense of himself and his place in a landscape that resonates with the unexplained, where interactions unexpected and outside the ordinary occur.
