The DeCordova Museum's mission is to collect twentieth-century American art with an emphasis on contemporary work with a strong New England focus. Many artworks enter the collection through the generosity of collectors or artists. Others are purchased with the Museum's acquisition fund, which is often supported with grants from foundations or specific gifts from individuals. This exhibition includes work acquired through all those methods and gives visitors a chance to see the diversity of artwork the museum has acquired in the last two years. Selected from a list of over 250 acquisitions, these 28 paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, sculpture, and new media works show the range of the collection—from a lyrical abstract painting by Katherine Porter to the emotional photographs of children with cancer by Matthew Swarts. The exhibition is organized by Rachel Rosenfield Lafo, Director of Curatorial Affairs.
