In 2003, the DeCordova Museums Permanent Collection received over 180 works of art from the bequest of contemporary art collector Dr. Beatrice H. Barrett. This exhibition, which highlights the most significant artworks from her collection, reflects Dr. Barretts taste and vision as an important collector of work by regional and international artists of the second half of the twentieth century. Many of the largely abstract works that comprise Dr. Barretts collection either suggest or literally represent the five elements: earth, water, fire, metal, and wood.
This exhibition is organized by Curatorial Fellow Alexandra Novina, and will be accompanied by the full-color book Choreographing a Collection: The Dr. Beatrice H. Barrett Collection of Art, by former DeCordova Assistant to the Director Angela Koester.
