Sublime Harmony, 1993, glass, wood, brass, steel and fired enamel decals, Museum Purchase, 1996.39

Annette Lemieux works in a large range of media and material, including painting, photography, collage, and sculpture, that is ultimately motivated by what works best to communicate a specific idea or concept.

Sublime Harmony is the artist’s version of a music box, consisting of a Swiss-made musical works mounted on a wood base under a hand-blown glass bell jar. Photographic images of natural disasters are screened onto the glass which stands in contrast to the elegance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Juxtaposing the chaos and danger of hurricanes and snowstorms with the beautiful harmony of the music is characteristic of Annette Lemieux’s works, as she questions the fragility of human existence. Sublime Harmony is one of an edition of nine music boxes published by Daniel Elias Editions.
