Sandy Litchfield is inspired by her walks in nature. Many of her paintings originate as map-like drawings derived from the routes of her walks. Like Chinese and Japanese landscapes, her paintings provide multiple viewpoints rather than a fixed perspective. The point of view can be horizontal or aerial, or a combination of both. Her work represents movement from place to place and the memories that are evoked through this passage. In Exotic Terrains 11, Litchfield constructs an evocative image of a landscape inspired by recollections of places that are meaningful to her. Her work was purchased from The 2004 DeCordova Annual Exhibition.
