Cynthia Eid
The paradox that “soft,” fluid metal has evolved from flat rectangles though force, determination, and tenacity enchants me. I am entranced by the progressive transformation of a flat sheet of metal --- through hammering, persuasion, and struggle --- toward an object of unity and fluidity.
Cynthia Eid is an award-winning metalsmith with thirty-five plus years of
experience. Eid received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University, her B.S. in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin Madison. She worked as a professional goldsmith in the trade in a gold jewelry factory and goldsmith gallery/stores. Currently an independent metalsmith and educator, Eid's sculptural jewelry and hollowware are primarily formed through the creative use of hammers and /or a hydraulic press. Eid has been an instructor at the DeCordova Museum School since 1998.
