Munya Upin

Munya Avigail Upin has a BFA from Drake University, a MA from San Diego
State University and a MFA from California State University-Fullerton, all
with a focus on jewelry and metalsmithing.  She has taught at Universities,
Art Schools and Museum Schools in the United States since 1980.  Her
signature is "Woven Metal Techniques" which she incorporates in her work and teaches in workshops across the country. Munya hopes to impart her
enthusiasm for metalworking to her students and help them to find their own creative voice. Before Munya moved to New England, she visited the DeCordova while on vacation.  As the car drove in the entrance and up the hill to the left of the museum (as one used to do), Munya said to her friends and family in the car, "Someday, I want to work here". Munya has now been living that dream since 1997. She has taught at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Penland School of Crafts, and at workshops and art schools throughout the United States.
