Mandy Young
After receiving a BA from Boston University, Mandy had an eight-year stint in the corporate world before discovering her passion for calligraphy at DeCordova. She studied lettering with Nancy Culmone for eight years. She has also studied with other calligraphers from all over the world. Some of her commission clients include Houghton Mifflin Publishing, Levenger, and the Massachusetts Audubon Society. She designed the logo for the 21st international calligraphy conference in 2001. She has been teaching at DeCordova for more than ten years.
Her overriding mission in teaching is to connect students to what they have to say. Everyone has something to say. Finding that voice is the process and the challenge.
Mandy is also interested in paste paper techniques, bookbinding, and color. Curiosity and a sense of humor are recommended tools in her classes.
