Furniture: Future Tense
The Store @ DeCordova
April 24 - May 4, 2003
Reception: Thursday, April 24 from 6 - 8 pm

Art object? Furniture? Form? Function? American designers and artists pose these questions for us every day. The Store @ DeCordova will host an exhibition and sale to assess some of the most interesting answers to these questions when formed into furniture. Where we sit, work, eat, live-all are transformed by the trained and creative eye. We invite you to come and form your own opinions-and maybe redecorate a room around something very new.

Furniture: Future Tense represents a new program among The Store's other successful series that highlight jewelry, wearable art, and other decorative and functional objects. A reception to open the exhibition and begin the sale will take place on Thursday, April 24 from 4 - 6 pm.

Artists represented include S.B. Studios (wood and mixed-media studio furniture in organic patterns); Peter Mann, a.k.a. the "Thingmaker" (industrial-style tables and benches of steel, slate, acrylic, and wood); r+d design (Japanese-inspired furniture and light fixtures); Critz Campbell of b9 furniture (reproduction vintage armchairs molded in fiberglass and illuminated internally); Emi Ozawa ("lift-leaf" wooden tables that resemble birds); Float (curvilinear furniture and molded rubber cubes on wheels); and William Dobson of o8o Studio (sleek steel and rubber chairs paired with tables inspired by bongo drums!).

Ornamental Art IV
The Store @ DeCordova
May 18 - June 1, 2003
Reception: Sunday May 18 from 2 - 4 pm

In its continuing effort to promote the very best work being created by the region's premier artists and designers, The Store @ DeCordova announces Ornamental Art IV, its fourth exhibition to celebrate the work of three jewelry artists new to The Store's collection. Join us on Sunday, May 18, from 2 - 4 pm for a reception to meet the artists-and a chance to ornament yourself in a new way. The exhibition and sale continue through June 1.

Metalsmith Kimberly Keyworth-a native of Gardner, MA-crafts gorgeous pins, earrings and bracelets that incorporate bold, contemporary lines. Keyworth employs a rich array of precious metals, enameling, and mixed media in her work.

The intricately handcrafted sterling silver and copper jewelry of Brooklyn's Cassandra Jackson has no rival for painstaking detail. Innumerable delicate copper filaments burst forth from and envelop strands of beautiful silver beads, all fashioned by the artist's hands.

Carla Reiter combines 18K gold, sterling silver, and oxidized copper in delicate, airy "dots" that seem to float on necks and ears. Occasional accents of tiny set diamonds give a subtle sparkle to these pieces.
