Creating mixed media works that are abstract in style and serious in tone, Doris Weiner manipulates the properties of shape, color, and layers. Weiner’s works are often visually unrelated, but speak a similar message. Whether presenting the viewer with carefully drafted prints with intersecting planes of sharp quadrilaterals or more emotive paintings almost smothered with violent black spirals and thick curves, Weiner’s common thread of opaque layering intrigues the viewer by drawing attention to what is hidden.
She has exhibited in numerous institutions, including Arena Gallery, Chicago, IL, Wenneger Gallery, Rockport, MA, Danforth Museum of Art, Framingham, MA, and Fitchburg Art Museum, Fitchburg, MA. Currently working in large scale sculpture, Weiner has become versed in many materials and media.
