Jan Lhormer’s abstract paintings emit a frenzy of discovery and recognition. Though she creates and combines many contrasting colors, there is a stability to her work, as if through the conversation between the color areas, an idea is developed. Lhormer states that she uses “form and color as metaphors for experience.” The viewer can see shifting points of view, mood, and emotion with the movement of the artist’s sweeping paint strokes.
Lhormer received both a BFA and a MFA in painting from Boston University School of Visual Arts (MA). She also spent time studying painting at Student Art Centers International in Florence, Italy. The artist teaches at many institutions in Massachusetts, such as Bridgewater State College (Bridgewater, MA), Boston Architectural Center (Boston, MA), UMass Boston (MA), and The Art Institute Boston (MA). She has exhibited her work at The Cape Cod Museum of Fine Art (Dennis, MA), The Cambridge Art Association (Cambridge, MA), and The New Art Center (Newton, MA) among others. Jan Lhormer has been a Lending Artist with deCordova's Corporate Program since 1998.
