Kate Nelson’s abstract paintings are inspired by nature and her travels. Finding meditative qualities in each of these areas, she feels that her paintings are about both the landscapes that she sees, and the landscapes she finds within herself. Nelson says, “I hope to see my work become like good jazz; disciplined yet free, spare yet full, within rich tradition yet achingly personal.” Her use of bright colors and movement help her to achieve this goal.
Nelson received degrees in pre-medicine and art from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has studied printmaking and painting at Massachusetts College of Art and Haystack Mountain School, Deer Isle, ME. The artist has taught stone and aluminum plate lithography at the Cape Cod Conservatory of Art and Music. Nelson is represented by numerous galleries on Cape Cod, including the Left Bank Gallery, Wellfleet, MA.
