SPECIAL FOR WINTER! School Tour and Activity
Enhance your school group tour to this winter’s special exhibitions with an activity that explores the connection between drawing, the body, time, and space. A series of drawing prompts offers students experiential understanding and discussions of the art and ideas on view in Drawing Redefined. Tour and activity last 90 minutes. Available January 6–March 18, 2016, Wednesdays–Fridays, 10 am–4 pm. For grades 2–12 in groups of 10–30 students.

Guided Tours are led by trained guides, are discussion-based, and engage visitors of all ages with the changing contemporary art on view in the Museum and the Sculpture Park.

Self-Guided Tours of the Sculpture Park are available for all ages in the Sculpture Park and may be enriched by deCordova’s audio tour available on cell or smart phone. Self-guided tours of the Museum exhibitions are available for adult, college, and high school groups and may be enriched by a visit to the Process Gallery.

Touch Tours of the Sculpture Park are available from April through November. These tactile tours, led by specially trained guides, are designed for groups with low or no vision and other multisensory learners. Read more about Touch Tours on this blog by Perkins School for the Blind.

Early Learners Journey of the Sculpture Park is available for preschool and kindergarten students from April through November. This journey consists of thoughtful discussions and sensory-based activities that use play, communication, and exploration to engage students with a variety of learning styles. Pre- and post-visit materials are available:

                        Early Learners Journey Teacher Guide

                        Early Learners Journey PowerPoint

Tour Information

Reservations are always required for Guided or Self-Guided groups of 10 or more in order for our visitor services and security staff to prepare accordingly.

Due to the high demand for tours, group reservations must be made at least three weeks in advance. We suggest booking several months in advance for the busy spring and fall seasons.

Because of the delicate nature of the Museum exhibitions, guided tours are required for all students grades 1–8. Museum tours are not available for Pre-K and K groups, but visits to the Sculpture Park are encouraged.

Guided tours are approximately 45 minutes in length and can be arranged for groups of 10–100. The tour limit for the Museum is 50 at one time.

For scheduled guided tours, a Museum Guide will contact you approximately a week before your tour to confirm your reservation, take any requests, and answer questions about your visit.

Tours are conducted rain or shine.

We are unable to accommodate any groups on the first Wednesday of each month due to capacity and staffing limitations of our Free First Wednesday programming.

Group Visit Fees

Group visit fees apply to both Guided and Self-Guided groups of 10 or more.

All groups of 10 or more are required to make a reservation in advance by completing a Visit Request Form. Your visit will be confirmed when you receive a confirmation letter with accompanying invoice, visit guidelines, and directions. If we need to adjust the date of your request, you will be promptly notified via phone or email.

Payment is required at least three weeks prior to the visit date. Please organize payment in full for the entire group in the form of cash (exact change only), check (made payable to deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum), or MC/Visa/AMEX credit card.
