"My drawings on paper are meant to evoke the muted frescoes of Pompei or the deep yet subdued shades of a worn medieval tapestry. I am fascinated how the effects of time enhance a surface. My images involve historical references and architectural suggestion. I create using forms and objects of history—a saddle with scrolled handles from the Bayeux tapestry, an ancient Hittite vessel with a bird-like spout, a Chinese warrior’s helmet. I am intrigued by these every day objects and how they are uniquely portrayed throughout history. An object may appear again and again throughout history because of its usefulness, and yet, due to the distinct influences of each particular culture, it appears with great variety of form. I want my work to reflect the lyricism, balance, and quality of beauty which I find inherent in these objects."
